Time and Dirt

(First Day -- Previous Day -- Day 8 -- Next Day)

Day 8

Heliopause Colony on Planet Vertumna, Medbay

“Solane, good morning! I finally managed to come to you earlier today, right after breakfast. It was just the same old soy porridge again or else I’d have taken something for you ... oh. In case you had woken up already, I mean. ...

You’d think since the arrival of this huge other spaceship last year with all those new people we would have better food, more variety and higher yields, but no, most of them had to be soldiers who only arrived here to lord over us and make us kill wildlife rather than nurture it so we could benefit from each others’ gifts...

And Lum, their leader who then made himself Governor, is the worst of them. He isn’t even trying to get me more help in the gardens or support Engineering in improving our farm machinery, in fact, they keep coming to pester me now trying to persuade me to enlist in their army they are setting up! Then I heard at the council meeting he’s requesting all s we have left for some stupid plan of his and it took all of my willpower not to snap at him! Honestly, I wish a xeno would eat him during one of his reckless ventures outside already... sorry.

Sorry, I shouldn’t snap at you either, Solane... it’s just, it’s getting hard to do it all alone. No one else here ever even showed a real interest in plants aside from you, or was willing to help out.

Marz likes the park, but abhors the idea of getting her hands and *fancy* clothes dirty. She’s disgusted even just by me talking about it... Anemone always only cared for sports, and now I guess war or something since she joined the guards of Lum. And we used to be so close!
Tangent only cares for them in that dry, academic way and doesn’t seem to actually want to touch anything except with pinchers, rubber gloves and petri dishes. And if I remember you correctly, she thinks humans are just like, inherently better than all other life for some reason. Ew. Her brother Dys, well, I never see him, he’s always out on expeditions or something. You told me about how well you get along with him, though, so I’m sure he’s good, just... busy.
Rex is-was nice to hang out with, but I guess he’s too much of a social butterfly to really be a gardener? Nomi is like an artist or something, always chasing some new idea.

It’s truly just been me and you and then recently you started spending more time, like, tutoring the smaller children and helping out in... medbay so I was really glad to see you back in geoponics last week ready to get dirty again. It felt like when we were kids! Well, except for your parents not being there anymore, and then... Sorry, I’ll... I’ll fix this, I promise.
